Double Dutch Bus | My Parents. My Childhood.

I am one of those strange people who is not really into music. When I say I'm not really into music...what I really mean is I don't listen to music on a consistent basis. I usually only listen to music as I'm driving in the car. I listen to whatever comes on the radio. I also listen to whatever music Big R plays too. Even though I'm not a big music person I do enjoy music. I especially love how music can take you back to a particular place or time. This past Friday while driving to pick up Little R, I was listening to our local old school, R&B radio station and Double Dutch Bus came on the radio. It immediately made me think of my parents. Although my time with my dad was cut short, I had a really great childhood. I have such fond memories of my parents together. My parents started dating when my mom was 17 and my dad was 20. My mom was 26 going on 27 when I was born, and my dad was 30. So prior to having me, my parents were able to really enjoy their time together as a couple.

Left to Right | Uncle. Mom.Dad

I've heard so many stories of my parents having the best house parties in town during there younger years. I remember a few of those parties, and I can remember my parents dancing to Double Dutch Bus. Life seemed to be so carefree in the early 90's. I'm sure my parents had their troubles, but their love for each other, my brother and I, and life in general was evident. I can only hope that Big R and I will continue to have a love for each other, our family, and life just like Kim and Pete (aka my parents).

Salem Delights | Produce and Local Goods at my DOORSTEP!

A couple of weeks ago I was glancing at the local deals in my area on when I noticed a deal for local produce delivery. I have seen local produce distributions in my area before, and I actually happen to have a farmer's market within 5 minutes of my house. When I grocery shop, I am a one-stop shop type of girl. So I usually shop at Walmart or Harris Teeter for groceries, and I pick up any produce I need during those trips. I just can't find the motivation to actually go to the farmer's market for fresh, local produce. I digress, I saw a deal on Livingsocial for produce delivery from a company called Salem Delights based out of Winston Salem, NC for only $13 bucks! I didn't know what to expect, but I just couldn't pass up the deal! This past Monday I had my first box delivered right to my DOORSTEP! (Mind you we were hit with a winter storm on Monday and my box was still delivered - a day early!) Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised! Here's the box:

The company enclosed an introductory letter with information about the company, the delivery service, and the box. The produce and local goods came in a handcrafted box, that was made in Napa Valley, CA. The box also has custom insulation to keep the contents at the perfect temperature and humidity. I was in love with the box alone! It has such an old-timey feel. Here is a glance at the contents inside the box:

And here are all the contents outside of the box:

My box for last week included the following:

1.00 x The Bagel Station - 3 Plain Bagels
1.00 x Eggs - Grade A & Cage Free (1 dozen)
2.00 x Apple - Gala
6.00 x Clementines
1.00 x Lettuce - Green Leaf (organic)
1.00 x Onion - Sweet (organic)
2.00 x Yam - Organic Garnet (Sims, NC)
1.00 x Tomato on the vine - 4 count

Again, I can't say enough how pleased I am with the service! I plan to continue the service on a bi-weekly basis! So, if you live in the Piedmont Triad area of NC, be sure to check out Salem Delights for your produce delivery! I'm most certainly a fan!!!

The opinions in this post are my own. I was not compensated by Salem Delights or LivingSocial for this review! :)

Life as a Stepmom | "It's Our Weekend"

Yes, it is "our" weekend to have this munchkin of a 7 year old!

Anyone in a co-parenting/step-parenting role can relate to the phrase "It's our weekend" I'm sure! I have refrained from talking about our custody/visitation with Little R on the blog for many different reasons, but I've decided to I want to open up about our experience. If I have any readers in a similar situation you know that sometimes you just need to vent. I think it would also be nice to have someone else to talk to about all things step-parenting related! So get ready folks! This journey has been one heck of a ride. Through all the ups and downs, Big R and I enjoy every little second we have with Little R. He is really the light of our lives! We have not seen him for three weekends straight, so both Big R and I are counting down the minutes until 6pm pick up!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I'm sure we will!!!

Weekend Recap

This past weekend was a good one. Filled with lots of rest and was just what I needed. Big R and I both talked about how we hadn't had a weekend like that in far too long. I didn't take many pictures, but I thought I would share the few that I did with you!
I hope you can excuse the poor quality of this picture, but I had to take a quick snap of my HAIR! I got Marley twists installed in my hair on Sunday! I'm soooo praying they last for at least a month. Y'all have to be sick of me talking about my hair!

Big R and I watched the Super Bowl from the couch. It was just the two of us, but that doesn't mean we weren't equipped with some yummy Super Bowl snacks. I made fruit/cheese tray, loaded baked potato dip, and potato wedges with bacon and cheese. Big R smoked some of his famous wings. Delish!
That's all I have for this weekend recap! I hope you had a fabulous weekend as well!

Until Next Time,
