New Blog| Hughey, Party of Four

Helllloooo, friends!!!! This blog post is so long overdue! I wanted to come here to share some exciting news and explain why you haven't heard from me here! I created a NEW blog a few months ago. It's something I actually decided to do on a whim, but I hope you will join me at my new space! You can find me at

You can expect to find very similar content on my new site, but I plan to make the new space more of a family AND lifestyle blog. {I had my baby boy in July by the way! I still can't believe I didn't update on here since my 32 week pregnancy update!}

Anyway, I hope to see you at! Would love for you to follow me and my family on this journey we call life.

Until Next Time,

Baby Update | Week 32

Yes, I said week 32!!! Oh em to the gee! My little man will be here in 8 short weeks or less, and of course I haven't been here on the blog with an update in weeks!!! Blehhhhh, I struggle with blogging consistency if you haven't already noticed.

Let's get to the update shall we?!

size of the baby | About the size of a squash (that's a bad vegetable comparison to me - I mean what kind of squash are we talking about?! According to all the articles I've read, my little dude is working his way to 4 pounds!)

total weight gain | Oh friends...the scale is not about the right....that's all I have to say about that.

gender | Boy!

maternity clothes | I have acquired quite a few more maternity clothes over the weeks. I ordered a few pieces from Walmart online that are super comfy, but still cute. I also ordered a few bottoms from (aka an online Goodwill/thrift shop) ThredUp has a ton of little worn, name brand clothes that aren't just maternity specific. I defin. recommend you check the site out!

movement | This boy is VERY active....and now that he is running out of room it hurts! : ( The painful movements have increased quite a bit just this past week. Good thing I love this kid so much already so I'm giving him a pass!

sleep | Sleep is just so, so. I wake up quite a few times throughout the night to hit the bathroom, which then means it takes a little while to get back to sleep. AND my baby likes to move the most at night!

craving | I can't really think of a specific craving I've had lately. Well, there is ice! My iron is low, which I experienced as a teenager. I was an ice fiend back in those days, so I find it kind of strange that I'm craving it again now during pregnancy.

symptoms | Ah! I really try not to complain about my symptoms, because I want to enjoy every bit of this pregnancy as there is a pretty good possibility this will be my only one. BUT there are symptoms: back pain, knee pain, I have to pee all the time, baby kick pains...just to name a few

stretch marks | none! I can't believe it....still none! I have been using Palmer's Stretch Mark Massage Lotion on my belly, hips, butt, and thighs daily.

Big R is | Really starting to anticipate the arrival of our little guy. He is also very attentive to every moan and complaint I make - making sure I'm ok. I really like this extra sweet man this pregnancy has turned him into.

looking forward to | Baby showers! I have one tomorrow with my family in Virginia and another smaller one in a couple of weeks in North Carolina with my local friends and coworkers.

best moments | Baby R's nursery is NO WHERE near complete, but he does have a crib and that makes me happy!

Hopefully I will get another update out sometime before I actually have Baby R! *Fingers crossed*

Until Next Time,

Preparing for Easter Weekend - We're Heading to the D!

Popular Detroit Destinations via | image
I seriously can't believe April is here already!!! Maybe it's just me, but this year is flying by! I will be heading to Detroit for a long weekend with my boys for the Easter holiday. I'm excited we were able to make this trip happen since we won't be able to make it back to visit Big R's family for our annual Fourth of July trip, because we will be awaiting Baby R's arrival! ;)

What are your plans for the Easter weekend?

Baby Update | 23 Weeks + 1 Day

23 week update
size of the baby | about the size of a large mango

total weight gain | Up 2 pounds since my last appointment a month ago. Not bad.

gender | 100% boy!

maternity clothes | I have picked up a couple of maternity shirts - mainly from Target clearance and one pair of maternity leggings - also from Target

movement | My little guy is on the move! I can feel him moving around all throughout the day. I've noticed he really likes riding in the car. Maybe it's the music? If so, he definitely gets that from his daddy.

sleep | Still decent. When I go down at night I'm usually out. It's nice that I haven't had to wake to pee in the middle of the night as much.

craving | I've really wanted a cold cut sub for the past few weeks! Ughhh too bad I'm not supposed to have cold cuts.

symptoms | I don't really have many complaints. I dealt with some headaches for about two weeks straight, but they have pretty much disappeared. I'm dealing with a tooth issue. I have an appointment scheduled for a root canal. {not looking forward to that AT ALL} I'm wondering if the pregnancy has intensified the issue with my tooth. I'm not really uncomfortable yet, but I do moan and groan with big movements.

stretch marks | none!

Big R is | Still very kind and helpful. We are gearing up to get the little one's nursery together! We are looking forward to a trip to Detroit to visit family for the Easter holiday.

looking forward to | Mini vacay with my boys. + More nursery prep.

best moments | Little R and I had a conversation about his little brother last weekend. He is going to be the best big brother ever.

I had a doctor's appointment today. My little guy and I are both very healthy, which was great to hear. I have my next appointment at 27 weeks, and I will have the glucose test done. After that appointment, I will start going every two weeks. Is this real life? Also, my cousin and best friend are working on my baby shower, which will be in late May....eeekkkk! I'm going to be a mommy!!!!!

My Style Thursday | Spring 2015 Wishlist

Spring 2015 Wishlist

I have not posted a My Style Thursday in foreverrrr! I'm itching to go spring shopping and these are some of the items I will be on the lookout for sure. As many of you probably already know my style is super simple and usually very casual. Since I will be rocking an ever growing baby bump this spring, I think it will be nice to have a couple of nice button downs I can wear open with a nice comfy tee under. As you notice, I don't have any specific plans for bottoms. Do I have to wear pants? LoL. I have not been a fan any pants. I can actually still fit into all my regular jeans for now, but I'm most comfortable with no pants, or if I have to wear pants I'm grabbing for pants with a stretchy waist. For those lingering cool days and nights, I'm on the hunt for a light weight, olive green parka. Lastly, I NEED a pair of white Converse in my life, and a girl can never have too many statement necklaces. Right? Tell me what you have on your spring wish list! I want to know!

Hey friends! I've been wanting to share this news for quite some time, but I wanted to make an effort to tell my closest friends and family first before sharing here on le blog! But as you already know from the blog post title...I'm PREGNANT! My motto for 2015 is 27, married, and pregnant. This is such an exciting time in my life! I'm honestly still in disbelief that I'm carrying a child. I don't really know why! I have seen my little bean at four different ultrasound appointments, my is tummy poking out, and I can feel some slight movements at this point.

As of tomorrow, I will be 21 weeks -- over half way there already! My due date is July 15, 2015. AND we are having a BOY!!!! I don't know how consistent I will be with pregnancy updates, but I thought I would start with my 20 week update. I also want to do another post letting you know how I felt from the beginning until now!

Anyway, here's a glance at my bump, which looks more like extra weight in the midsection than a bump to me and my 20 week update will follow:

Double Dutch Bus | My Parents. My Childhood.

I am one of those strange people who is not really into music. When I say I'm not really into music...what I really mean is I don't listen to music on a consistent basis. I usually only listen to music as I'm driving in the car. I listen to whatever comes on the radio. I also listen to whatever music Big R plays too. Even though I'm not a big music person I do enjoy music. I especially love how music can take you back to a particular place or time. This past Friday while driving to pick up Little R, I was listening to our local old school, R&B radio station and Double Dutch Bus came on the radio. It immediately made me think of my parents. Although my time with my dad was cut short, I had a really great childhood. I have such fond memories of my parents together. My parents started dating when my mom was 17 and my dad was 20. My mom was 26 going on 27 when I was born, and my dad was 30. So prior to having me, my parents were able to really enjoy their time together as a couple.

Left to Right | Uncle. Mom.Dad

I've heard so many stories of my parents having the best house parties in town during there younger years. I remember a few of those parties, and I can remember my parents dancing to Double Dutch Bus. Life seemed to be so carefree in the early 90's. I'm sure my parents had their troubles, but their love for each other, my brother and I, and life in general was evident. I can only hope that Big R and I will continue to have a love for each other, our family, and life just like Kim and Pete (aka my parents).

Salem Delights | Produce and Local Goods at my DOORSTEP!

A couple of weeks ago I was glancing at the local deals in my area on when I noticed a deal for local produce delivery. I have seen local produce distributions in my area before, and I actually happen to have a farmer's market within 5 minutes of my house. When I grocery shop, I am a one-stop shop type of girl. So I usually shop at Walmart or Harris Teeter for groceries, and I pick up any produce I need during those trips. I just can't find the motivation to actually go to the farmer's market for fresh, local produce. I digress, I saw a deal on Livingsocial for produce delivery from a company called Salem Delights based out of Winston Salem, NC for only $13 bucks! I didn't know what to expect, but I just couldn't pass up the deal! This past Monday I had my first box delivered right to my DOORSTEP! (Mind you we were hit with a winter storm on Monday and my box was still delivered - a day early!) Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised! Here's the box:

The company enclosed an introductory letter with information about the company, the delivery service, and the box. The produce and local goods came in a handcrafted box, that was made in Napa Valley, CA. The box also has custom insulation to keep the contents at the perfect temperature and humidity. I was in love with the box alone! It has such an old-timey feel. Here is a glance at the contents inside the box:

And here are all the contents outside of the box:

My box for last week included the following:

1.00 x The Bagel Station - 3 Plain Bagels
1.00 x Eggs - Grade A & Cage Free (1 dozen)
2.00 x Apple - Gala
6.00 x Clementines
1.00 x Lettuce - Green Leaf (organic)
1.00 x Onion - Sweet (organic)
2.00 x Yam - Organic Garnet (Sims, NC)
1.00 x Tomato on the vine - 4 count

Again, I can't say enough how pleased I am with the service! I plan to continue the service on a bi-weekly basis! So, if you live in the Piedmont Triad area of NC, be sure to check out Salem Delights for your produce delivery! I'm most certainly a fan!!!

The opinions in this post are my own. I was not compensated by Salem Delights or LivingSocial for this review! :)

Life as a Stepmom | "It's Our Weekend"

Yes, it is "our" weekend to have this munchkin of a 7 year old!

Anyone in a co-parenting/step-parenting role can relate to the phrase "It's our weekend" I'm sure! I have refrained from talking about our custody/visitation with Little R on the blog for many different reasons, but I've decided to I want to open up about our experience. If I have any readers in a similar situation you know that sometimes you just need to vent. I think it would also be nice to have someone else to talk to about all things step-parenting related! So get ready folks! This journey has been one heck of a ride. Through all the ups and downs, Big R and I enjoy every little second we have with Little R. He is really the light of our lives! We have not seen him for three weekends straight, so both Big R and I are counting down the minutes until 6pm pick up!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I'm sure we will!!!

Until Next Time,

Weekend Recap

This past weekend was a good one. Filled with lots of rest and was just what I needed. Big R and I both talked about how we hadn't had a weekend like that in far too long. I didn't take many pictures, but I thought I would share the few that I did with you!
I hope you can excuse the poor quality of this picture, but I had to take a quick snap of my HAIR! I got Marley twists installed in my hair on Sunday! I'm soooo praying they last for at least a month. Y'all have to be sick of me talking about my hair!

Big R and I watched the Super Bowl from the couch. It was just the two of us, but that doesn't mean we weren't equipped with some yummy Super Bowl snacks. I made fruit/cheese tray, loaded baked potato dip, and potato wedges with bacon and cheese. Big R smoked some of his famous wings. Delish!
That's all I have for this weekend recap! I hope you had a fabulous weekend as well!

Until Next Time,
