Fall 2013 Wish List| Casual Fashion

Fall 2013 WIsh List

{1) Studded Military Jacket {2} Nine West Leopard Print Smoking Flats
{3} Striped 'Tee' Sweatshirt {4} Navy Infinity Scarf {5) Cognac Cross Body Messenger Bag {6} Gold Charm Necklace
I wouldn't call myself a fashionista at all, but from what I've seen apparently these military styled jackets are pretty trendy. I think this one at Amazon for $40 seems like a good buy. I could see myself getting a lot of wear out of it on the weekends.
{2} Nine West Leopard Print Smoking Flats lordandtaylor.com
I currently own a pair of these. They are the Target brand, and honey...I've gotten my $19.99 wear out of them. I would love to get my hands on this pair from Nine West. I would think I could get a little more wear out of them for the price.
{3} Old Navy Striped 'Tee' Sweatshirt oldnavy.gap.com
This "sweatshirt" has my name written all over it. I am a sucker for stripes, and this is something I could easily wear on a Saturday morning errand run. I need this, possibly in multiple colors, in my life!
{4} Mossimo Navy Infinity Scarf target.com
I love me some scarves! I only own one actual infinity scarf though. The one I own is navy blue/cream striped, and it's made of a thicker, faux-wool material. I would love to have this lighter material, textured one from Target for the fall.
{5} Vintage Leather Crossbody Messenger Bag etsy.com
Again, when I am on the go over the weekends, cross body bags are so convenient. I have a pair of cognac brown boots I love wearing, and this cognac brown bag, that's easy to carry, would pair nicely with them. This bag in particular is a vintage, sold on Etsy. I don't have to have a vintage, but I'm not opposed to it either.
{6} 14 Karat Gold Charm etsy.com
Now this charm necklace I really, really want! If I don't get it for the fall season, it would make a great birthday gift. {Hint, hint.}  Honey, I hope you're reading this post ; ) This charm necklace would be perfect for everyday. I can see myself wearing it with a number of my work outfits. And of course I would want the initials L and R! <3

So there you have it. Some of the casual items I hope to purchase for this upcoming fall season. I didn't notice it when I created this board, but looking at the items I mentioned they could all be worn together, or each piece could be worn individually to create different looks. Let me know some of the things you plan to purchase for the fall. Maybe you can give me some more ideas! ; )

Until next time yall...

Coffee Spill

After this morning’s regular Friday staff meeting, I stopped by my desk to drop off my notebook, grabbed my coffee mug and headed straight to our office’s Keurig machine for my morning cup of Joe. I took one sip, and my co-worker who sits in the cube diagonal from me called my name. As I looked up in response to her call, in what felt like slow motion, I watched my whole cup of coffee spill all across my desk, lap, and cell phone. Another co-worker came to my rescue with a whole stack of napkins, and she helped me clean up the mess. Luckily, I didn’t get any coffee on my computer, or any important documents, and my phone is just fine. As I kid, I could not STAND to get my clothes wet, but today I was totally fine with it. I am lucky enough to live only about 10-15 minutes away from work. So at lunch today I will go home and take a quick shower. And on top of all of that…it’s Friday! Fridays always bring about a sense of peace for me. I made it through this crazy week, and tonight is date night with my man! What are yall’s plans for the weekend?

Saturday Morning Thoughts

|Little R is so independent. I woke up this morning (for the second time that is...I was actually up before 7 to make Big R some coffee before he headed off to football camp) to the sound of Skylanders on his TV, and him munching on potato chips. Lol. Big R and I are planning on having one more little one after we are married. I have to admit though, Little R has me pretty spoiled. It will be interesting to see how I do with an infant one day.

|It just hit me that I will be back to school this upcoming Monday! Like two days from now! I am finishing up some pre-reqs for a program I plan to apply to. So after work, I will be in my Anatomy and Physiology class for three hours! Even though class days are long, I am looking forward to it. What can I say...I enjoy science. Nerd, I know.

|It's possible that I am addicted to coffee. It was also one of the first things I thought of when I woke up this morning. I bought some new Southern Butter Pecan Creamer earlier this week. I can't wait to pour a splash of that in my mug!

|I am going to ask Little R if he wants to eat leftover pizza for breakfast. I don't think he will object. ; )

Catch yall a little later! <3

Friday At Last

Oh, this eCard so accurately describes how I felt at 8:02 AM. This has been one of the longest weeks of my life. If you have ever worked in higher education, then you might just understand how busy the month of August can be. This week was open registration for us...Lord help! Our office has been so busy! There were points this week that I didn't know if I was going to make it, but with the help of  a little prayer I did!

After work today, I picked up the little one for the weekend.
Instead of "Cheese" he said "Kindergarten!" LoL. Crazy child.
This was his first week of kindergarten. On the drive home, he gave me the scoop on his first few days. His new best friends are Cooper and Ethan. He doesn't like that he no longer has nap time, and he thinks it's pretty cool that he can buy chips and cookies everyday at lunch, as long as he has money on his "account." LoL. It's the little things I guess.
Earlier this week, Big R and I were able to spend a little quality time with his dad, step mom, and his two younger brothers. Even though Big R and I were both super tired after getting home from work, we really enjoyed the little time we were able to spend with his folks. I hope to see them again sometime in the near future.

And now to enjoy the weekend! Catch yall later!

L.A. Colors Nail Polish Remover Pads

So as I mentioned in my latest favorites post, I like to keep my nails polished as much as possible because I have horrible nails! I also just feel more put together when I have my nails polished. One of my secret weapons to keeping my nails manicured are these L.A. Colors Nail Polish Remover Pads. Let me tell you, if you don't use these already, run out to get them now! I have seen them at the Dollar Tree and Dollar General. The package comes with 32 remover pads for only $1!

So here are a few basics about the product:

The product claims to:
-Quickly and effectively remove nail polish gently without damaging nails.
-Does not dry out nail surface or skin.
-One pad can clean up to 10 nails where as a darker shade may need 2-3 pads.

Product Directions:
 Press saturated pad lightly over each nail and wipe off polish. Wash hands after use.

Available scents:
 Lemon, strawberry, grape, peach, melon, and pear.

 Trust me! This product lives up to its claims and MORE! The product is oil based, and it removes the polish from your nails with little to no effort. As mentioned on the product, you only need to use one to two pads on lighter color polish. Usually I can remove the polish from both hands when I have on a lighter colored polish. When I have on a darker colored polish I use anywhere from 3-5 pads. Again, it's totally worth the $1! The product is also acetone-free, and the fragrance is very, very mild compared to your typical fingernail polish remover. I have a few pictures of my nails after using the pads below:
Perfection! After the polish is removed, you have to wash your hands to remove the small amount of oily residue. Then you are ready to polish again. Let me know if you try these out! Check back later this week for a Pinterest-inspired D.I.Y (Do It Yourself) home fragrance.

Until next time...<3

Goodwill Haul

Please tell me yall have shopped at your local Goodwill?! Yall have, right? If you have not, please let me have the honor of putting you on. Also, please do not blame me if you become an addict, like me. There are a few things you should know before you go:

{1} If you are a germaphobe, this is not the place for you. There will be dust, and there will be germs. It comes with the program.
{2} You have to be willing to take your time. You have to look through every item, one by one. In housewares, I find myself going up and down the same isles. I swear I always find something I didn't before see on my third or fourth pass.
{3} I highly recommend that you try on your clothing items before you purchase them (again, this may not be everyone's cup of tea.) But you never really know how the items are going to fit until you try them on.
{4} Think about how you will use the item before you purchase it. It is so easy to grab a bunch of items just because you've found such a good deal, and then you get home and you have nowhere to put it or it hangs in your closet for months and you never wear it.
{5} Some shopping experiences will be better than others. Sometimes I will find a basket full of items, and others I don't see anything worth buying. It happens.
{6} Once you become a seasoned Goodwill shopper, like myself, try to set a budget before you go into the store. Just FYI, I'm almost never to stick to budget.
{7} Lastly, have an open mind. You never know what you may find!

Now on to my latest haul...

I had planned on spending only $10 this trip. Yeah right, Keia. Where else can you buy: two dresses, a vest, a top from The Limited, a cardigan Banana Republic, AND a small side table for a whopping $28.67? Yeah, mmm hmm...I'll wait! I snapped a few pictures as I tried the items on. I apologize the quality isn't all that great, and the mirror was dirty...eh, here it goes! Enjoy!

Snake Print Dress - Brand: Studio I Size: 8 Price: $4.99
This dress does not look like much in this picture, but honey, all I need is a belt to cinch in my waist and a pretty statement necklace. I have been eyeing J. Crew's statement necklaces, like the one here, but I will more than likely end up with a J. Crew "inspired" necklace, like the one here. I can't stomach, or afford, paying $135 for one costume necklace.
Basic Royal Blue Top - Brand: The Limited Size: Small Price: $3.79
This shirt is brand new, and I am quite sure you would not be able to get this from The Limited for $3.79. I don't feel like you can have enough basic tops in your wardrobe. I can throw this on with jeans, or I can wear it to work with or without a cardigan over it.
Periwinkle Blue Cardigan - Brand: Banana Republic Size: Medium Price: $3.79

I love, love cardigans. They are so perfect for the office. A cardigan, a tank, slacks, and I'm ready to go. I was excited to find this one since it is such great quality I know I can hold on to it for a while.
Black vest - Brand: oneA Size: Medium Price: $3.79
I can't wait to wear this vest this fall. The material is super soft and comfy. It hits below my booty, so I plan to wear it with some leggings, a scarf, and a pair of boots for a nice casual look.
Black Dress - Brand: Chequer Size: 4! Price: $3.79
Your girl got into a size four! Holla! LoL. One of the many perks of Goodwill is that sometimes you can fit into clothes you don't think you would normally be able to get into! You can never have to many LBDs (Little Black Dresses.) This one in particular has a ruching detail under the bust and studded details on the sleeves.

My last item was small side table. Little R had a small Cars table and chair set that he had outgrown. He is big boy now, so I have been on the look out for some new furniture pieces for his room. His room is a huge work in progress but I was excited to come across this small side table for only $5 bucks. I am still on the lookout for some chairs, but this is a step in the right direction. I can't wait to see what he says when he sees it!
Before (Paint stains and all!)

After

This table is smaller than his old table, but I hope he gets as much use out of it as he did with the Cars table.

And, that's all for this trip! I will have many more Goodwill hauls to come. I hope you all enjoyed this post. Let me know if you've been to Goodwill? Or if you plan to go after reading this blog post? Please share!

Until next time...<3

Weekend Recap

{Friday, August 2nd, 2013}

I only worked a half day on Friday, as I had to take my "future mother-in-law" to the airport to catch her flight back home to Detroit. We enjoyed her company, but I am pretty excited to have my house back...well at least for a few days. We will be having more house guests in a week. Big R's dad, stepmom, and two younger brothers will be in town next Sunday. I look forward to having them. Anyhoo...that's not what I'm here to discuss. After Little R and I left the airport, we came to the decision that "we" would have pizza for lunch. That means pizza for him and a sandwich and fries for me. If we let him, that child will eat pizza everyday! I love this kid to pieces. He is such much fun. He brings joy to my world every time we're together. After lunch we made our back home. I had to work on some work stuff and the little one entertained himself, for the most part, playing the new game his grandma go him on the Xbox 360.
Later Friday evening, we decided to take a ride on the town. I showered up and threw on a comfy 'fit. I love throwing on a tank, boyfriend jeans, and my Chuck T's. I also rolled out with a fresh, makeup-free face. I threw on my favorite cross earrings, put my hair in a quick top knot, and we were out the door. Before we could decide where we wanted to go, Little R fell asleep in the backseat so Big R and I ended up picking up some movies from the video store, a pizza, and we headed home. Friday night ended with Big R and Little R on the couch watching Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and I continued working on the stuff I brought home from work.

{Saturday, August 3rd, 2013}
Saturday after throwing a few different ideas around we decided to spend our afternoon at Wet N Wild Emerald Pointe. Little R will be starting kindergarten on August 12th, and August is an extremely busy month at work for Big R and I so we wanted to do something fun as our hoorah!
I didn't end up getting many pictures, but trust me we had a really good time. Little R scuffed up his knee pretty bad earlier in the week so the poor kid hobbled around the whole park. But let me tell you! One of Emerald Pointe's biggest attractions is the giant wave pool. Just as it sounds, the pool simulates ocean waves. Little R, much like Big R, has a very competitive nature, and that child was determined to conquer those waves. It was too fun to watch him pump himself up and brace himself for the waves. The waves either slapped his 45" frame or just completely took him under. (No worries, he had on a life jacket and Big R and I were right by his side the whole time.) Overall, we really enjoyed the fun hours we spent at the park, and we look forward to going back again. On our trip home, Little R told us that he wants to go back when he's a little older. LoL. He wasn't able to ride all of the rides because he wasn't tall enough. The little daredevil wanted to ride the biggest slides in the park.

{Sunday, August 4th, 2013}
Sunday, like most Sundays, was very chill. I did a few things around the house. Big R and Little R played around outside until it was time to take Little R to meet his mom. Sunday evening ended with Big R and I chilling on the couch. I spent that time to mentally prepare for the upcoming work week. Yall pray for me!

Until next time...<3

Small Haul | Beauty and Hair Products

After work yesterday, I made my well past due trip to Walmart for my monthly household purchases. This was one of those trips where I felt like I needed everything, paper towels, toilet paper, body wash for Big R and Little R, laundry detergent...everything! Of course in the midst of picking up the essentials I added a few extra things to my cart. I decided I would share a few things from my haul. A few of the products I have used before, and others this will be my first time trying them. Let me know if you have used or enjoyed any of the items I picked up.
{Suave Professionals Moisturizing Shampoo with Almond and Shea Butter}
As much as I would love to be one of those naturals who just co-washes their hair (washing your hair with only conditioner), I just have not been able to find a conditioner that will remove all of the product build up from my hair. I'm sorry but I love slapping some EcoStyler gel on my edges, and conditioner alone is not going to cut it to get everything out of my hair. I started using the Suave Almond and Shea Butter Shampoo about a month or so ago, and it does the trick for me. It removes all products from my hair without completely stripping the moisture out of my hair. I grabbed this 28 fl. oz. bottle for less than $3.
{Simple. Vital Vitamin Night Cream}
I am in the process of trying to find a regimen for my skincare that's easy, consistent, and will most importantly, keep my face moisturized and as blemish free as possible. I have seen the Simple product line on advertisements here and there so I went I spotted this Night Cream I decided to give it a try. I used it last night, and I am really impressed with how moisturized my face felt this morning when I woke up. The product claims to be for "naturally healthy looking skin," containing two vital vitamins, three skin loving nutrients, and no perfume or dyes. I look forward to see how this product works for my face over the next few weeks.
{Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter - Berry Smoothie}
So I decided to try this out because I have been on the hunt for some lipgloss/balms that will give my lips a little color. A few weeks ago my man pointed out a girl on some show or video we were watching. The girl was a shade or two darker than me, and she was wearing a berry colored lip gloss. Big R asked my why don't I wear anything like that. Well, in my opinion, when your man suggests something like that, look into it! It's not often that he mentions anything beauty or fashion related so I've been excited to try some color on my lips. I tested out the Revlon Lip Butter tonight and it's a very sheer coverage, but it does give my lips a light mauvy pink tint. So far a pro would be the moisture the Lip Butter provides. The con would be that it doesn't last too long. Below you will see a collage that shows the color information, and I swatched the color on my hand so you can get an idea of the color pay off. Please give me suggestions on other lip glosses to try ladies!
{Clean and Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser}
I have been experiencing some pretty ugly breakouts over the past couple of weeks. I think some of the breakouts are hormonal and stress related, but others may be a little adult acne. I've used the Clean and Clear Facial Cleanser in the past so I decided to give introduce it back into my routine to see if it will help to fight and prevent some of these unsightly pimples and zits I have going on.
{St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub}
 Now I'm sure most of you have all seen this oldie but goodie. I remember seeing my older cousins use this stuff when I was a kid. Again, in my effort to come up with a solid regimen for my face I thought this would be a good product to try for exfoliating a few times a week.

I don't know how yall feel about it, but I love me some Walmart! It is so nice to be able to pick up so many things I need in one place! Let me know how you feel about these kind of blog posts. I will try to remember to do an update post on my feelings about the Simple Night Cream in a few weeks. And lastly, let me know what yall think about the new blog layout!!! ; )
